Every team I've talked to about process mapping tells me some version of the same story: the diagram was right the day someone built it, and wrong within a month. A step gets added, an approver changes, a handoff moves to a different team, but the flowchart sitting in last quarter's deck doesn't reflect any of it.

A stale process map is a wrong process map. And if updating a diagram means rebuilding it, it won't get updated. I don’t see that as a training problem or a discipline problem, but a tool problem. In fact, our research shows that building a flowchart from scratch is the single biggest pain point in diagramming today—55% of people who already use a diagramming tool and 72% of people who don't use one at all report it as their top pain point. Everyone ends up back at the same place: a static image pasted into a slide, quietly going out of date.

We built Lucen Flowchart to close that gap.

What is Lucen Flowchart?

Lucen Flowchart is our answer to that problem: a process visualization tool that works inside Microsoft PowerPoint, so a diagram never has to leave the slide it's meant to live on.

A flowchart is a diagram that shows the steps in a process, their order, and the decisions between them. Most teams build these in a separate diagramming app, export them as images, and paste them into a presentation. By then, the diagram is a picture, not something you can edit. Lucen Flowchart removes that step, with every diagram made of real PowerPoint shapes so it stays editable, on-theme, and ready to present. No rebuilding required when the process moves on.

Lucen Flowchart is part of Lucen's Microsoft-native suite, alongside Lucen Timeline, Lucen Track, and Lucen Plan.

How does Lucen AI create a flowchart in PowerPoint?

Lucen AI turns a written description of a process into an editable flowchart on your current slide. You describe the steps in plain language, and Lucen AI drafts the diagram with shapes and connectors already in place. Lucen AI is included on every Lucen Flowchart plan.

There are three ways to start:

  • Describe a process. Write out the steps, owners, and decisions, and Lucen AI builds the first draft.
  • Convert an image (Plus). Turn an existing diagram, like a whiteboard photo or an exported image, into editable shapes.
  • Refine with AI. Ask Lucen AI to adjust a diagram you've already built.

The draft is a starting point as opposed to a locked output. Every shape it creates is a native PowerPoint object you can move, restyle, or delete.

How do swimlanes make handoffs clear?

Swimlanes group each step under the team or role that owns it, so anyone reading the diagram can see who does what and where work passes between people.

A swimlane diagram is a flowchart split into horizontal or vertical lanes, one per team or role. Cross-functional processes like onboarding, approvals, and incident response often fail at the handoffs. Swimlanes make those handoffs visible. Swimlanes are included in Lucen Flowchart Plus. Every plan can start from 12 templates, and Plus adds a library of advanced templates with swimlanes and more complex layouts, plus the option to save your own diagrams as reusable templates.

What happens when a process changes?

When you add, move, or remove a step, Lucen Flowchart's auto layout realigns the shapes and reroutes the connectors for you. You don't have to redraw the diagram or fix arrows by hand.

You edit right on the slide: move, resize, and group shapes while connectors stay attached. When you're ready to present, one click tidies spacing and routing and applies your deck's theme colors, so the diagram matches the rest of your presentation.

How is Lucen Flowchart different from a separate diagramming tool?

The main difference is that the diagram you build is the diagram you present. There's no export, no static image, and no rebuilding in PowerPoint when something changes.
